As the insurance industry enters a new era—driven by data, automation, and AI—Mavera has evolved to meet the moment.
We’ve gone from being a trusted provider of medical advisory services to becoming a leading technology partner for insurers in personal injury claims. With this change, we transformed our medical advisor platform into what is now Mavera DSS, an AI-powered decision support platform for personal injuries.
With more than 1 million claims processed, we’ve built a deep understanding of the personal injury domain and gathered a wealth of structured and unstructured claims data.
How it all started
The first part of Mavera’s story begins in 2008, when company founder Mario Pereira saw an opportunity to bring more fairness, speed, and structure to the personal injury claims process.
At the time, Mario worked as a claims adjuster—and with a background in IT, he quickly realized that combining these two skill sets could transform how insurers manage medical assessments.
He quit his job and founded Mavera, focusing on building a network of medical experts and digitizing the communication between them and claims handlers.
He built the first version of the platform and connected the first group of medical specialists. In 2010, Swedish insurer Moderna Försäkringar became Mavera’s first customer. Henrik Fond, their Claims Manager Personal Injuries, shared his view at the time:
“We will get a fast and secure assessment process, and the service is cost-effective. Mavera offers a new and exciting solution that will make it easier for both us and the medical advisors.”
Where we are now
The concept grew steadily from there. As more insurers recognized the value of a structured, digital approach to medical assessments, Mavera became a trusted partner for many of the leading insurance companies in the Nordics.
Today, we use that experience to power new innovations, combining AI with medical expertise to help insurers make faster, and more accurate decisions.
Mavera DSS now supports the entire journey—from documentation upload and medical summaries to desktop assessments, specialist assessments, and performance management. We’re continuing to expand the platform’s capabilities to give claims teams more clarity, control, and confidence—without sacrificing transparency, quality, or compliance.
Becoming part of Verisk
In 2023, Mavera was acquired by Verisk, a leading global data analytics and technology provider for the insurance industry.
The acquisition empowers us to accelerate product development, scale innovation, and bring our platform to more insurers across Europe. Since 2024, this is also reflected in our name: Mavera, a Verisk business.
“With the blend of our digital expertise, market knowledge, and desire to innovate, we will collaborate to push the boundaries of insurance digital transformation in Europe,” said Roine Gabrielsson, CEO of Mavera, a Verisk business.
As part of Verisk, we’re more committed than ever to helping insurers unlock the full potential of technology and data in claims management.
